How to Reduce the White Point on Your iPhone or iPad and Make iOS 7.1 Less Bright

If iOS 7 was difficult or uncomfortable for you to read, then iOS 7.1 could literally be a sight for sore eyes. That's because Apple has included new Accessibility features intended to reduce contrast and enhance usability. One of those reduces the white point a couple of steps to something closer to a very light gray. It might not sound like much but it can make a big difference, especially in dimly-lit situations. Best of all, it's easy to enable!

How to make whites less brighter on iPhone and iPad

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 7.1 or higher.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Tap on Accessibility.
  4. Tap on Increase Contrast under the Accessibility menu,
  5. Turn the Reduce White Point option to On.

You should notice your screen dim slightly. From now on iOS will make whites less harsh which should help with visibility, especially at night. Check out the feature and then let me know how it's working for you in the comments. Does it make doing things like reading or playing games in darker environments easier on the eyes?
